NANBIOSIS renews its accreditation as Unique Science and Technology Infrastructure (ICTS)

The Ministry of Science and Innovation, Diana Morant, chaired the XI meeting of the Council for Scientific, Technological and Innovation Policy, in which the update of the Map of Unique Science and Technology Infrastructures, the ICTS Map for 2021-2024, was approved.

The ICTS are facilities dedicated to cutting-edge research of the highest quality, as well as to the transmission, exchange and preservation of knowledge, technology transfer and the promotion of innovation.

The map has 29 ICTS distributed among all the territories, includes NANBIOSIS, the Infraestructure for Production and Characterization of Nanomaterials, Biomaterials and Systems in Nanomedicine with its 26 units.

NANBIOSIS is one of the five ICTS in the area of health sciences and biotechnology. This thematic area has significantly increased its representation in the current ICTS Map. Under the concept of distributed ICTS, infrastructure networks have been established in the field of imaging, nanotechnology and omics sciences. In addition, the high biological safety laboratories are also reinforced, expanding the infrastructures of this type that offer their services.

«It is a great opportunity to be able to renew the accreditation in order to potentiate the development of CVD-graphene films and also the implementation of thin-film technologies to build flexible microdevices for biomedical applications», explains Rosa Villa, head of the Biomedical Applications Group at IMB-CNM.

The institute is in charge of the Micro-Nano Technology Unit of NANBIOSIS (Unit 8), which is led by the GAB scientific staff, as it is a place with the capacity for producing high quality CVD-graphene. Thanks to the integration of the unit in the Clean Room facilities of the IMB-CNM, it is possible to complete a wide range of micro- and nanofabrication processes (thermal processes and CVD, metallization, photolithography, dry and wet etching, etc.) for the complete fabrication of graphene-based microdevices.

NANBIOSIS is the second item the IMB-CNM has placed in the ICTS map, the other being the Micro and Nanofabrication Clean Room, as a node of the MICRONANOFABS network. This network has also recently renewed its seal.
